Do we have to lose our beautiful landscaped front or back yards? Not really. Here are the solutions!

1. I can’t live without my green lawn! Do I still have options for drought resistant landscaping?

artificial turf

You won’t believe how many options we have now for the artificial turf. It’s way less time and money consuming than your current grass and yet it can keep your yard looking its best. It requires no water, virtually maintenance free, no chemicals nor fertilizers needed. Can it be any better? Yes, artificial turf is also qualified to have the rebate in most of areas in the Greater Los Angeles.

If you are ready for a change, why not try to get a whole new makeover on your front or back yard? With the new water restrictions, most of our water supply agencies have come up with variable rebate program to help you on the cost of your landscape project as long as your meet their requirements. For example, LADWP offers California Friendly Landscape Incentive Program for both their residential and commercial customers. The application process is very easy as well.

 3. Still want the real living grass?! How about change your irrigation system to Drip Irrigation System?

Lawn Sprinkler

Forget about your sprinklers. Drip irrigation system is such an efficient way to deliver water to specific areas. It slowly delivers water directly to the soil around the roots. Therefore, very little water is lost from the evaporation or runoff. Of course, that translates the big saving of the greens in your wallet and your lawns.

All above offers great environmental benefits for water conservation. We can think outside of the box and be creative to have our own drought-tolerant yard. Let’s all help California through the water crisis and still enjoy our outdoor living with low-water plants that give our yard an all-season appeal!

Thanks for the information! I live in a desert climate, so droughts are quite common in my area. It’s good to know that there are ways for me to keep my yard well watered throughout a drought. Using the right type of irrigation system seems like a good way to use less water without your lawn looking like it. I liked what you said about drip irrigation systems. It seems like they slowly delivering water to the soil would be a good way to make sure that it effectively hydrates your lawn without that moisture being lost from evaporation.
